"Why are you making me sit here in the snow without any underwear on?" I am telepathic, and those were Blu's exact words. Anything for a photo op. That is the price he pays for being the top dog here at our farm. Membership does, however, have its benefits: my father and mother gifted Blu with this handsome coat recently. He has been wearing it every time I let him outside to take care of business or just for a romp in the snow. At first he had to get used to it, but after he tried it a few...

Another holiday season has swept through, leaving in its wake warm and loving memories and a sweet lingering feeling of relaxation. Each year I learn new lessons in keeping the holidays in simpler and more humble manners. This is my personal effort to help keep the true spirit of the holidays alive for myself, my loved ones, and anyone whose life I might happen to touch in some way or other. I find I succeed in some ways, and fail in others but always my quest is to get it better than I have before, learn from my mistakes, discard...

Last weekend my husband and I took a three-day road trip exploring the Thousand Islands area of New York, the Adirondack Mountains, and a drive back home via Route 67 from Saratoga Springs going west toward the Buffalo/Rochester area. Our first day out, we left before dawn on Friday morning and arrived in Clayton, New York up in the Thousand Islands area before noon. We both love the feeling of being up and out on the road at early morning dark and through the various, sometimes misty, stages of dawn while much of the world is still asleep. There is...

It is very much like having a child, this thing of raising a puppy. He is a good, good boy and sometimes he does mischief and he always keeps us on our toes. Back in July we put in an electric fence for him so that he can have full freedom out in the yard. It has been up to me to do the bulk of the training he needs so that he respects the boundaries set by the electric fence, simply because I work from home and am available to train him. We were doing pretty well with it...
Cool Days of August

We are having exceptionally cool days, even though it is late August. It is cool enough during the day I find myself reaching for sweaters and jackets. Not that I'm complaining ... The first weekend of the art show at The Winery at Marjim Manor went very well. The weather was gorgeous, and the time spent at the Manor was both highly aesthetic and relaxing. There is something about that little section of western New York that I absolutely love. Up the road from the Manor is a little ice cream stand on a neighbor's farm where I love to...
